KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Stadium Corporation intend to turn the National Tennis Centre in Jalan Duta into a world-class tennis hub and a landmark for the development of tennis in the country.
The stadium board said this was in line with their vision to provide international-standard facilities that will support the development of local athletes, attract world-class tournaments and strengthen Malaysia’s image as a regional sports destination.
“The National Tennis Centre had previously hosted international meets, such as the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup, with the support of the Youth and Sports Ministry through the Sports Matching Grant initiative,” they said in a statement yesterday.
“Judging by the increased demand, PSM will invest in upgrading works, including court repairs, fencing, supporting facilities and the installation of new floodlights.
“These facilities will be opened to the public via the Courtsite online booking system.”
In a bid to strengthen the national tennis ecosystem, the stadium board will also collaborate with the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) and the Duta International Tennis Academy to make full use of the facilities through bulk bookings at special rates starting from January 2026.
They also stressed that the National Tennis Centre would remain as the country’s main tennis hub and would not be converted to other sports, like pickleball or padelball.
“We are confident the National Tennis Centre can produce more world-class players and attract more prestigious tournaments, thus elevating Malaysia’s image on the global stage.” — Bernama
