PETALING JAYA: Malaysia came close to gaining promotion at the Billie Jean King Cup Asia-Oceania Group II but fell 0-2 to Indonesia in the playoff at the National Tennis Centre.

Hope was on experienced hand Sharifah Elsa Wan Abdul Rahman but she lost 6-2, 6-2 to Anjali Kirana Junarto in the opening singles.
