PETALING JAYA: Reigning singles champion Ng Eain Yow led Malaysia to a stunning upset over defending champions India to reach the Asian Games final.

Eain Yow and Co knocked out India 2-1 in a thrilling semi-final tie at the Kinjo Futo Arena in Nagoya on Thursday (Oct 1).

The national team last reached the final at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang edition and defeated Hong Kong for the title.

Buoyed by successfully defending his singles title, Eain Yow played superbly to beat Abhay Singh 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 in just 27 minutes.

He had beaten the same player in the individual final.

However, Sanjay Jeeva could not seal the tie after going down 4-11, 8-11, 5-11 to Veer Chotrani, forcing a decider.

C. Ameeshenraj then rose to the occasion, coming from behind to beat Velavan Senthilkumar 10-12, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9 in 22 minutes and deliver the winning point that kept Malaysia’s gold medal chase alive.

Malaysia will take on Pakistan in the final, which is a repeat of the 2010 title showdown, where Malaysia settled for silver.
