National squash player S. Sivasangari.

PETALING JAYA: It was double cheers for top Malaysian player S. Sivasangari as she won the awards for Professional Squash Association (PSA) Moment of the Season and the Women’s Match of the Season awards in Birmingham on Saturday.

The PSA Moment of the Season award was achieved for Sivasanagari's fabulous run in the London Classic where she defeated world No. 3 Hania El Hammamy to win her first PSA gold level title on April 1.

The fact that she also beat world No. 1 Nour El Sherbini (quarter-final), then world No. 4 Nele Gilis (semi-finals) and El Hammamy, who was ranked No. 3 during the tournament, had convinced the fans to vote for her and the selection panel to name her as the winner.

Her epic final victory over El Hammamy in five sets (11-9, 5-11, 13-11, 12-14, 11-8) that lasted 81 minutes fetched her the PSA Match of the Season award.
