Makin ends Eain Yow’s run in London

PETALING JAYA: It’s the end of the road for squash player Ng Eain Yow (pic) in the Optasia Championships in London but not before he made life tough for his opponent.

The world No. 18 fought for 60 minutes with world No. 8 Joel Makin but the Welsh player proved too strong for the Malaysian, winning 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 11-3.

Makin will face world No. 2 Ali Farag of Egypt in the quarter-finals.

Makin admitted that the game was difficult no thanks to Eain Yow’s variety of shots and pace on the court.

“That was tough today. The court played really nicely but it’s just so cold. To get the ball through and elongate the rallies a little bit was hard.

“He’s so skilful and quick around the front, and if you take him in without too much pace or running it in tight, he’s quick onto it and he has a lot of options.

“You really need to get your tactics right out there, and it’s a difficult thing to do, but it’s a good quality match, I thought.”

Eain Yow’s next assignment is the Canary Wharf Classic from March 13-18 where he will face Englishman Adrian Waller in the first round.

It’s the same opponent he beat earlier in the Optasia tourney.
