Yiwen struggles past Aira to book semi-final spot

Tough task ahead: Chan Yiwen (front) will meet second seed Ooi Kah Yan for a place in the final.

PETALING JAYA: National squash player Chan Yiwen was stretched to the limit against up-and-coming junior Aira Azman before checking into the semi-finals of the SRAM PSA 5 event.

The 21-year-old had to dig deep to beat Aira, who is four years her junior, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 13-11 at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

Yiwen, the third seed, was heading towards a humbling defeat as she looked out of sorts in the first game.

But she managed to get her act together to seal the win in 31 minutes.

Yiwen will meet second seed Ooi Kah Yan, who defeated Nazihah Hanis 11-5, 11-2, 11-9, for a place in the final.
