PETALING JAYA: Malaysian squash queen Nicol David was no match for New Zealand’s Joelle King in the third round of the women’s singles competition of the Tournament of Champions in New York City.

The eight-time world champion had won 10 of their previous 11 meetings but failed to notch another one as she lost 4-11, 11-8, 4-11, 8-11 to King.

The 35-year-old Nicol was the only Malaysian remaining in the platinum level event after S. Sivasanagari and Low Wee Wern crashed out in the second round.

Sivasanagari lost to Egyptian Salma Hany 8-11, 8-11, 6-11, while Wee Wern could not get past world No. 8 Nouran Gouhar, also of Egypt, losing 4-11, 5-11, 11-5, 6-11.

Nicol and Wee Wern will return to action again for the World Championships in Chicago, the United States, next month.
