Nicol’s the sole women’s singles survivor for Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: Nicol David is the only Malaysian women’s singles squash player to reach the third round of the Tournament of Champions in New York City.

The former world No. 1 beat current world junior champion Rowan Elaraby of Egypt 11-9, 11-7, 13-11 and will take on fourth seed Joelle King of New Zealand for a place in the quarter-finals.

S. Sivasangari failed to get the better of another Egyptian Salma Hany in another second-round match. Sivasangari lost 8-11, 8-11, 6-11 to the 15th seeded Hany.

Low Wee Wern earlier lost 4-11, 5-11, 11-5, 6-11 to Egypt’s world No. 8 Nouran Gouhar also in the second round.
