Rugby-Six-try Canada beat Wales 42-0 at Women's Rugby World Cup

(Reuters) -Wings Alysha Corrigan and Asia Hogan-Rochester both scored tries as Canada’s expansive style secured a 42-0 bonus-point victory over Wales in their Women’s Rugby World Cup Pool B clash in Salford on Saturday.

Wales started brightly and forced Canada into scrambling defence in the opening 15 minutes, but the latter’s forwards began to dominate at the set-piece and lay down the platform from which to launch wave after wave of attack.

Props McKinley Hunt (two) and Brittany Kassil, and flyhalf Taylor Perry also crossed for tries, while lock Sophie de Goede kicked all six conversions in a perfect display off the tee.

Wales improved in the second half and had some promising entries into the Canada 22 but on each occasion were either held up by some stout defence, or let down by an error.

Canada’s 10 points from their two Pool B fixtures means they should finish in the top two in the group, earning a quarter-final place for the 2014 World Cup silver medallists.

After a 38-8 loss to Scotland in their opener, Wales are staring at a pool-stage exit, which could be confirmed when Scotland play Fiji later on Saturday.
