MALAYSIA fell short of winning a second sepak takraw gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after losing to Thailand in the regu final on Tuesday (Sept 29).

Malaysia, represented by Azlan Alias, Aidil Aiman Zawawi and Syahir Rosdi, went down 9-15, 8-15 to Thailand’s Tanaphon Sapyen, Nontakote Krtisanapong and Wuttinun Kamsanor at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnasium.

The result also denied Malaysia the chance to regain the regu gold they last won at Jakarta-Palembang 2018.

Still, Ahmad Jais Baharun’s men will return home with something to celebrate after beating Thailand in the team regu event and ending their 36-year dominance at the Asian Games.
