Third’s not the charm for Irfan

PETALING JAYA: National discus thrower Irfan Shamsuddin endured a disappointing outing at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games after failing to register a valid throw in the men’s discus final yesterday.

The 30-year-old muffed up all three attempts at the Scotstoun Stadium that left him without any scores at his third Commonwealth Games appearance.

Just two months ago, Irfan had set a new national record of 62.87m at a meet in Hungary.

Irfan needs to find his rhythm again before the more important Asian Games in Japan next month.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Matthew Denny defended his gold medal with a winning throw of 67.73m followed by Jamaica’s Fedrick Dacres (65.10m) and England’s Lawrence Okoye (64.45m).
