PETALING JAYA: Weightlifter Erry Hidayat delivered Malaysia's third gold medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games after winning the men's 79kg event on Monday (July 27).
Erry produced a Games record total lift of 331kg, comprising 147kg in the snatch and 184kg in the clean and jerk at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Armadillo.
India's Valluri Ajaya Babu settled for silver after finishing just 1kg behind on 330kg, with lifts of 149kg in the snatch and 181kg in the clean and jerk.
England's Chris Murray claimed the bronze medal with a total lift of 325kg with 148kg in the snatch and 177kg in the clean and jerk.
The victory was even more special as Erry emulated his father, Hidayat Hamidon, who won gold for Malaysia at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games.
Malaysia have now won three gold medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, with Aznil Bidin and Aniq Kasdan having earlier triumphed in the men's 65kg and 60kg weightlifting events respectively.
