PETALING JAYA: Malaysia opened their World Cup campaign on a winning note after beating Singapore 15-9, 15-13 in the sepak takraw Group C quadrant event at Stadium Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (May 16).
Malaysia were represented by Amirul Zazwan, Afifuddin Razali, Shahalri Aiman Halim and Aidil Aiman Zawawi, while Singapore, coached by Ahmad Fauzi Omar, featured Fairuz Azahri, Hairuz Fizly, Youri Adli and Akmal Musyarraf.
The win puts Malaysia in good spirits ahead of their second Group C match against South Korea on Sunday (May 17).
Amirul had mixed response after a fruitful day.
“For the first match, I personally felt our performance was a bit slow. But we will try to improve in tomorrow’s matches because we will be facing India and South Korea.
“I think they are stronger than us based on their performances today, so we need to raise our level for tomorrow," said Amirul.
