PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s sole representative at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, Aruwin Salehuddin, saw her challenge in the women’s giant slalom event end in disappointment on Sunday (Feb 15).

The 22-year-old failed to complete her first run after crashing just past the halfway mark of the course.

It was not the outcome Aruwin had hoped for after making a promising start, clocking 17.02 seconds in the first sector before posting 35.01s in the second sector.

A total of 12 other skiers also suffered the same fate and did not finish their runs, ruling them out of Run 2 and ending their hopes of contending for medals.

Meanwhile, Mexico’s Sarah Schleper and Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener did not start the race.

Aruwin will have a chance to bounce back when she competes in the slalom event on Wednesday (Feb 18).
