All eyes on Aruwin as Malaysia's sole contestant at Olympic Winter Games

Aruwin Salehhuddin

PETALING JAYA: Aruwin Salehhuddin is Malaysia’s sole representative at the Olympic Winter Games, which began with the opening ceremony on Friday (Feb 6) in Milan, Italy.

For the 21-year-old alpine skier, it is her second Winter Games appearance.

Aruwin also competed at the 2022 edition in China, where she finished 38th in the giant slalom but did not complete the slalom event.

Aruwin, who grew up in Bellingham, Washington, in the United Staes, is Malaysia’s first female athlete to compete at the Winter Games.

This marks Malaysia’s third appearance at the Olympic Winter Games, following earlier representations by Jeffrey Webb and Julian Yee.

Jeffrey (alpine skiing) and Julian (figure skating) competed at the 2018 edition and Jeffrey also made the cut for the 2022 edition with Aruwin.

Aruwin is accompanied by her father Salehhuddin (chef de mission), mother Siti Alphiah Tunggal (team manager), coach Kai Alaerts, and Olympic Council of Malaysia chief executive officer Fong Wan Hor.

In conjunction with the historic outing, OCM, in collaboration with Universal Traveller Malaysia, have produced a winter apparel ensemble for the small Malaysian contingent.
