Sepak takraw regu sign off SEA Games with Malaysia's 57th gold

BANGKOK: The sepak takraw team provide Malaysia's final flourish in the Thailand SEA Games by winning the men’s regu event.

It was Malaysia's final and 57th gold in the 33rd SEA Games. 

The team of Mohd Haziq Hairul Nizam, Farhan Adam, Mohd Hafizul Hayazi Adnan, Mohd Syahir Rosdi and Mohd Azlan Alias played brilliantly to beat Vietnam 2-0 in the final at the Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium Stadium on Saturday (Dec 20).

The team also won the men’s team regu title on Sunday (Dec 14), ending a 34-year-wait for gold in the event.

There was joy for the women as well, as they secured a bronze after losing 0-2 to Indonesia in their last round robin match.

Sepak takraw is the last event for Malaysia before the closing ceremony tonight (Dec 20). 

Malaysia finished fourth in the standing with a medal haul of 57-57-117 for a total medal of 231. 

The top three teams are hosts Thailand (233-154-108) with a total medal of 495, followed by Indonesia (91-11-131) for 333 total and Vietnam (87-81-110) for their total of 278.
