BANGKOK: The Malaysian women were bang on target as they fought hard to come from behind and secure the country’s first SEA Games gold medal in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

They upset favourites the Philippines 4-3 in the final at the Chulalongkorn University in Pathum Wan for the sensational win.

The team, made up of Queenie Lim, Arfah Hazira Syahiruddin Lubis, Sharifah Alia Husna Syed Fakrurrozi, Afrina Balqis Ibdhi Har Ali, Qurratul Ain Nurfarisha Mohd Nizam, and Hanis Wahidah Mohd Dashuki, were at one point trailing 2-3.

However, they turned things around to the stun the favourites.

It was Malaysia’s first gold medal in e-sports since Dr Yew Weng Kean won at Hearthstone at the 2019 edition in Manila.

Meanwhile, the men’s e-sports team could not emulate the women. They had to settle for silver as they failed to get the better of Philippines in the final.

The men’s squad of Ealtond Rayner, Hazziq Danish Mohd Rizwan, Qayyum Ariffin Mohd Suhairi, Haqqulah Ahmad Shahrul Zaman, Idreen Abdul Jamal, and Danish Fitri Razman, could not get a single point off their opponents and fell 0-4.
