PETALING JAYA: Promising taekwondo exponent Chin Ken Haw is aiming higher as he gears up for his second SEA Games campaign in Thailand later this year.

The 21-year-old Kuala Lumpur native, currently ranked second in the national team behind reigning SEA Games gold medallist Jason Loo, is sharpening his skills for the recognised team and freestyle team categories.

Ken Haw made an impressive debut at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, clinching silver in the recognised individual event and finishing fifth in the team category. This time, he’s determined to turn that experience into gold.

"I want to build on what I learned two years ago and push for a better result this time," said Ken Haw.

"In two weeks, my teammates and I will head to Seoul for an intensive training stint to prepare for the Games."

Introduced to taekwondo at just eight years old, Ken Haw has spent years mastering poomsae, the discipline his parents encouraged him to pursue over sparring (kyorugi) for safety reasons.

His dedication and daily grind have transformed him into one of Malaysia’s rising stars.
