PETALING JAYA: National athlete Farah Ain Abdullah continued lawn bowl’s amazing achievement by bagging the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) 100Plus 2024 Athlete of the Year award on Monday (July 14).

She made heads turn after beating Paris Olympic Games bronze medal badminton winners Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (men's doubles) for the award.

The other nominees were bowler Sin Li Jane, tower runner Soh Wai Ching, and wushu exponent Tan Cheong Min.

Farah took the spotlight last year when she made history by winning gold at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in the Channel Islands, as well as bagging gold at the Asian Championships in Thailand.

It has been a good year for Farah. She was also the first lawn bowler to be crowned National Sportswoman of the Year in May.

Last year, lawn bowlers Nur Ain Nabilah Tarmizi and Aleena Ahmad Nawawi made history when they bagged the 2023 Athlete of the Year Award.

Meanwhile, powerlifter Bonnie Bunyau Gustin was named the SAM 100Plus 2024 Para Athlete of the Year.

Rising swimmer Mohd Dhuha Zulfikry took home the SAM 100Plus 2024 Best Young Athlete award.
