Aniq breaks national record to start Olympics campaign in style

PETALING JAYA: Aniq Kasdan began his competition in the men’s 61kg by breaking the national record in the snatch category at the South Paris Arena on Wednesday.

The Malaysian lifted 130kg in his third attempt to break Aznil Bidin’s snatch record of 129kg set at the 2023 World Championships in Riyadh.

Aniq started the event by lifting 126kg which was his best effort in snatch prior to the Olympics.

The clean and jerk will be held later in the day where Aniq will be aiming to better his national mark of 170kg.
