Don’t blame Hamidin for Olympic-bound athletes’ attire, says Yeoh

PETALING JAYA: There is no reason to blame Paris Olympics chef de mission Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin for the outfits Malaysian athletes will be wearing next month, says Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

She said pinning the blame on Hamidin was not right as he was not behind the design.

“Hamidin is not the cause of this so why blame him? He is not a perfect leader, none of us are. But he has done the best he can with the resources and challenges he faced,” she said at the National Women’s Football League’s launch at Lalaport Bukit Bintang City Centre in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (June 27).

Yeoh added that despite comments stating that previous designs were better, the decision was ultimately made by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) and sponsor Yonex.

She also clarified that the outfits shown will not be the national contingent's parade uniform, as those were designed separately.

At the same time, Yeoh urged the police to speed up the investigation process into the acid attack on footballer Faisal Halim.

“I urge the police to speed things up so we can go to the next stage of the case because Faisal is a national asset.

“I also hope Selangor's appeal to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) goes well,” she said.

Selangor FC will be appealing their fine of RM100,000 from the Malaysian Football League (MFL) and three-point deduction for refusing to play in the Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on May 10.
