A case of a brief outing for lawyer Cassandra

THE case is closed for ju-jitsu exponent Cassandra Poyong as far as her participation in her first Asian Games is concerned.

The 34-year-old law graduate suffered a brief moment of blackout after she lost on TKO (technical knockout) in her round of 16 women’s below 57kg match against Thailand’s Orapa Senatham at Xiaoshan Linpu Gymnasium yesterday.

Cassandra, the Asian championships bronze medallist in March this year, had a bye in the first round earlier.

“She lost due to technical knock out. She was choked-out and fainted during the match, which is an automatic defeat,” said team manager Sharizad Sidek.

“Cassandra is fine now. The team doctor from National Sports Council was with us and the deputy chef de mission Prof Farrah-Hani Imran was there too.”

The ju-jitsu team’s campaign is not over as Dr Tee Lip Jin will compete in the men’s below 85kg category today.
