MALAYSIA’S Moh Keen Hoo missed out on a chance for a golden double in the six-red snooker competition when he and Lim Kok Leong lost 2-4 to Thailand’s James Wattana-Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn in the semi-finals of the doubles event.
Keen Hoo-Kok Leong started well at the Aeon Mall 2 in Phnom Penh by winning the first two frames 67-0, 34-18. However, the Thais snapped the momentum of the Malaysian pair by taking the next four frames 49-8, 58-6, 57-14, 35-28 to advance to the final.
The Thai duo will take on Laos, who defeated Cambodia 4-0 earlier, in the final today.
Keen Hoo, a veteran with years of experience, had produced a stunning comeback from 3-0 down in the singles final to beat Laotian Siththideth Sakbieng 5-3 on Tuesday.
The Malaysian contingent can still hope for the cueists to add to the gold medal count as Keen Hoo will again team up with Kok Leong for the snooker doubles event after this.
Kok Leong will be fired up to bounce back in the event using the 15-ball format, especially after his quarter-final exit to Siththideth in the 6-red singles event on Monday.“I combined with Keen Hoo to win the snooker doubles gold before (in Philippines in 2019) but the event was not included in Hanoi last year. We have the potential to strike gold again,” said the 27-year-old Kok Leong. “But we will not be overconfident. We will take our chances at each stage.”
In Hanoi last year, Kok Leong bagged the six-red singles title but lost to Wattana in the snooker singles final.
Kok Leong, the reigning world amateur champion, together with Thor Chuan Leong, are the Malaysians entered for the snooker singles event.
