Keen Hoo aims to be on cue with long-time partner Kok Leong

Malaysia's Moh Keen Hoo in action

MALAYSIA’S “Mr. Cool” of Moh Keen Hoo, will be relying on his 20-year experience to guide his “aggressive” doubles partner Lim Kok Leong to land another doubles gold in Cambodia.

Keen Hoo, 36, will be making his 10th SEA Games appearance in Cambodia and comes with a clutch of medals, 11 in total including three gold medals, have struck an understanding with his fellow Penangite since 2015 and with an impeccable record.

Winning the world doubles twice – in Karachi in 2015 and in Kuala Lumpur last year, Keen Hoo-Kok Leong also captured the 2019 snooker doubles gold in Manila 2019.

Kok Leong, player of attacking style in nature, has had his own success as he won the SEA Games snooker singles gold in Hanoi and added the world amateur title in Antalya, Turkiye last year.

Keen Hoo-Kok Leong were unable to retain their snooker doubles title last year after the category was dropped but they are back to add another feather in their caps again.

“We have known each other for long and have been playing doubles on the international stage since 2015. Our styles are different but we have a very good understanding and that has brought us success,” said Keen Hoo.

“This is going to be my 10th SEA Games and I will do everything to guide Kok Leong in the doubles. We have a good chance and we want to keep the gold with Malaysia.

“Snooker 6-reds and 15-reds singles are quite tough with many good players but I’m quite confident playing in the doubles and we have been having a good run.

“We will also be playing in the he 6-reds doubles but it is a shorter version and gives everyone an equal chance of winning.”

In the snooker doubles, Keen Hoo-Kok Leong are expected to meet Thailand in the final.

Kok Leong will also fancy defending his 6-reds singles where he is the top seed and is expected to meet Jefrey Roda of the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the snooker singles is expected to be a tough tussle as Kok Leong and his compatriot Thor Chuan Leong will have a battle in their hands to unseat defending champion and former world No. 4 James Wattana of Thailand.

Malaysian Snooker and Billiards Federation (MSBF) have set a two-gold target and president Melvin Chia is banking on Keen Hoo’s cool head to achieve the target.
