PETALING JAYA: The Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) president Norismadi Abd Manap is looking forward to further developing the Unity Awards with the National Unity Ministry.
SAM collaborated with the National Unity Ministry for the first time to introduce two new categories under the Unity Awards - Best Media Report and Best Unity Photography in the SAM-100PLUS Unity 2020-2021 Awards yesterday.
The National Unity Ministry have agreed to continue their collaboration for the following year as they realised that sports journalists play a role in contributing to the development of national unity.
Norismadi said they are finding ways to further develop these categories for next year.
“We received positive responses from our members when we first introduced these categories. So we are trying to expand the categories to allow sports journalists to produce more work about national unity,’’ he said.
“Initially, we only have one category for this award but there were so many entries, so we decided to separate them into two categories - print and digital.”
Norismadi emphasised that they are willing to do their part in creating national unity.
“If we see from the school or community, the children played together regardless of race and religion.
“This is what we want to highlight and SAM are always ready to cooperate in developing more related programmes,” said Norismadi.
