PETALING JAYA: Poor participation of states has led to the scrapping of 12 events in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Kuala Lumpur from Sept 16-24.
The condition to compete in Sukma is clear – at least six state contingents must participate in each event in order for it to be featured in the Games programme.
But diving had the worst no-show.
Five events have been dropped and all are from the women’s category – 1m springboard, 3m springboard, 10m platform, 3m springboard synchro and 10m platform synchro.
The others axed are two from canoeing, and one each from karate, athletics, boxing, weightlifting and judo.
The National Sports Council and sports associations concerned will ensure that the athletes who have missed their chances to compete in the Sukma will get to participate in youth meets organised by their respective states to gain exposure.
Sukma is held every two years and consists of 16 core sports and six optional sports.
