The Paralympic Council of Malaysia are planning to organise a similar event in Kuching in March next year.
Their president Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin said after the executive council meeting yesterday that with the cancellation of the Asean Games, there will be no competitions for the para athletes this year.
“We will not let their training go to waste. We have decided to organise an event so that they can compete.
“We’ll hold it in Kuching in March as the Sarawak state government is keen to host it,” said Megat.
“It will cost about RM3 to RM4mil to organise and they are willing to help us financially. We will also look for sponsors.
“We will write to the International Paralympic Council to get their approval to organise the Games. We will invite all South-East Asian countries to compete in the seven-sport event,” said Megat.
The events are athletics, archery, tenpin bowling, tandem cycling, judo, seven-a-side CP football and swimming.
“I think they will be more than happy to compete as their athletes are also deprived of competitions.
“Although held in March, it will not clash with the Sukma (Malaysia Games) in Johor Baru,” added Megat.
