Powerlifter Yee Khie grabs a silver in Gold Coast

GOLD COAST: Powerlifter Jong Yee Khie has lived up to expectation by delivering a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The 29-year-old heaved a total of 188.7kg in the men's above 77kg at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre on Tuesday.

Defending champion Abdulazeez Ibrahim of Nigeria retained his gold with lift of 191.9kg while India's Sachin Chaudhary settled for bronze with 181kg.

Yee Khie's silver was certainly an improvement from his bronze medal effort in Glasgow four years.

Then the Sarawakian only managed a total of 178kg.
