KUALA LUMPUR: P. Maniam has been appointed as Selangor head coach for next season’s M-League.
The Football Association of Selangor (FAS) said on their website that Maniam, 48, would be assisted by K.Gunalan and Noor Zaidi Rohmat.
The ex-international, who played for Selangor in the 1990s, has a Pro Diploma Licence from the Asian Football Confederation which is the highest coaching licence in Asia and on par with the pro licence of UEFA.
Maniam is no stranger to the Selangor players, management or coaching staff. He was the Super League team’s assistant coach from 2009 to 2015 under Irfan Bakti, Zainal Abidin Hassan, K. Devan and Mehmet Durakovic.
He was also the acting head coach for Selangor when K. Devan and Irfan Bakti resigned in 2011 and 2013 respectively.
Before yesterday’s appointment, Maniam was the head coach of AirAsia Allstars FC, a team competing in the FAM Cup.
The FAS also announced that Abdul Rauf Ahmad would be the manager for the new season which starts on Jan 21.
Selangor finished fifth in last season’s Super League. They reached the Malaysia Cup final but lost 6-5 to Kedah in a penalty shootout. – Bernama
