Bowling: Zulmazran to shape up for world meet at World Games

PETALING JAYA: National bowler Zulmazran Zulkifli wanted to get into competition mode stint before the World Championships in Nevada from Aug 17-30, and he got his wish.

Zulmazran, together with Esther Cheah, will be taking part in the World Games in Cali, Colombia which started yesterday until Sunday.

Zulmazran Zulkifli will compete in the World Games at Cali, Colombia.

Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) secretary general Cheah Ban Cheng said the duo will use the tournament to sharpen their game ahead of the worlds.

The national squad for the World Championships did not participate in any tournaments since June. Instead, they were putting extra effort in training at the Sunway Megalanes in Suway Pyramid.

“The tournament will be a perfect warm-up for the duo ... not that they really needed any warm-up before the World Championships.

“We decided to send them because we are on the way to Nevada anyway on Sunday, as they could join us after the tournament in Cali,” he said.

The Malaysian team will travel to Nevada on Sunday while Zulmazran and Esther will join them the following day.

Malaysia are sending a strong team of six bowlers – Zulmazran, Alex Liew, Adrian Ang, Mohd Syafiq Ridhwan Abdul Malek, Mohd Rafiq Ismail and Timmy Tan – for the men’s competition.

Esther, Shalin Zulkifli, Sin Li Jane, Jacqueline Jenelee Sijore, Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakmi and Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman make up the women’s team.

Events contested in Cali are singles and mixed doubles. In the last Games in Kaohsiung (Taiwan) in 2009, Zatil Iman Abdul Ghani-Adrian Ang bagged the mixed doubles bronze medal while Adrian took the singles bronze.
