Selangor and Kelantan plum tie today

DEFENDING champions Terengganu should cruise past Sabah but the heat is on the plum tie between Selangor and Kelantan in two men’s football quarter-finals ties scheduled to at the Hang Tuah Stadium today.

Terengganu, powered by 10 Super League players, are gunning for a third consecutive title and should get past the inexperienced Sabahans in an afternoon match.

But Terengganu striker Joseph Kallang Tie said that they cannot underestimate their opponents.

“It is the knockout stage and the team who rise to the occasion should go through,” said the Sarawakian, who is on the Terengganu payroll this season.

The night match at the Hang Tuah Stadium between Selangor and Kelantan is expected to be a hotly contested one.

Selangor under the charge of coach P. Maniam are out to regain the title they last won when they hosted Sukma in 1998 but unpredictable Kelantan can crush their hopes.

Coach Zahasmi Ismail’s boys have responded after the thrashing by Terengganu by bouncing back to beat Penang 1-0.

The other quarter-final match-ups have Negri Sembilan against Kedah and Kuala Lumpur taking on Pahang.

K. Lumpur vs Pahang (Tun Fatimah Stadium – 4pm); N. Sembilan vs Kedah (SM Seri Kota – 4pm); Terengganu vs Sabah (Hang Tuah Stadium – 4pm), Selangor vs Kelantan (Hang Tuah Stadium – 8.45pm).
