GEORGE TOWN: Premier League debutants Johor Baru City Hall (Johor MBJB) have been expelled from M-League this season with immediate effect.
The FA of Malaysia (FAM) general secretary, Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad, confirmed yesterday that the Johor club side were thrown out of the competition for failure to settle insurance premium payments for their players and officials.
He said that the FAM resorted to expulsion after repeated reminders and extension of deadlines to Johor MBJB fell on deaf ears.
“The initial deadline was in December and we extended it three more times. While the other teams paid up by the latest deadline of March 13, Johor MBJB failed to settle their dues or to get in touch with the FAM to discuss their problems,” said Azzuddin.
Johor MBJB, in their first season in the Premier League, have played five matches and the FAM have handed 3-0 wins to all their opponents in the schedule. In the FA Cup, they were eliminated by Perlis in the first round.
