BAM players a lucky lot, says Nusa Mahsuri’s Roslin

KUALA LUMPUR: Nusa Mahsuri’s Mohd Roslin Hashim says that players today under the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) set-up were a lucky lot for having the option to move base without having to pay a single sen. 

“I wish I were in the BAM now. I had to pay transfer fee when I left the BAM to join Nusa in 1996. I paid about RM67,000. The BAM policy is different today and you don’t have to pay anything,” he said. 

Besides Roslin, former national player Ismail Saman also had to pay about RM44,000 to join Nusa then. 

“Nothing stops the players from leaving the BAM now. But I do not blame the players from leaving. Why not move out when the options become much, much better,” he said. 

“They can still represent the country even if they are not under the BAM banner. It is a good deal.” 

Roslin added that if the BAM did not review their policy, more players would leave their fold. 

On younger brother Hafiz’s decision to leave Nusa and the national training programme under the BAM, Roslin said: “I advised him against doing so but he has already made his decision.  

“It is his call and he knows what is best for him.”
