WORLD champion Rina Jordana Adnan is left with a task to be the saving grace for Malaysia in the silat competition when she competes in the women's Under-50kg final at the Sungnoen Municipality Hall in Korat today.
Rina will be up against Indonesian Pengky Simbar.
It has been a big disappointment for the Malaysian team, who were set a target by the National Sports Council (NSC) to win four gold medals.
Twelve gold medals will be at stake on the final day of the silat competition.
And Malaysian exponents have six bronze medals to show as losing semi-finalists in their events. The men's bronze medallists are Faizal Abdullah (Under-80kg) and Ahmad Shahril Zailuddin (Under-65kg). The women who will get on the rostrum are Wan Nurul Hidayu (Under-55kg), Malini Mohd (Under-60kg), Emy Lajip (Under-65kg) and Mastura Sapuan (Over-65kg).
Two months ago, Malaysia finished with a 7-5-8 haul in the World Championships in Kuantan.
In the two Games in the Philippines (2005) and Vietnam (2003), silat contributed three and two gold medals to the Malaysian tally.
