PETALING JAYA: Telekom Malacca (TMFC) have terminated the contract of their under-performing South Korean striker Yun Woon-chol.
The adviser of the TM group’s sports marketing unit, Shebby Singh, said that they parted company with the Korean last week and were now looking for a prolific goal-getter.
“We want an intelligent striker,” said Shebby after watching his team pull off a narrow 3-2 win over struggling Malacca in a Super League match at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya on Wednesday.
Woon-chol has scored only a goal since joining the team early in the season. He had gone without a goal for almost four months since putting his name on the score sheet in the 1-2 defeat by Pahang on Dec 27.
Shebby added that he was disappointed with the inconsistent form of the team, especially some of the key players.
“They need to take a good look at themselves in the mirror and ask what kind of professionals they are,” he said.
Shebby added that it was frustrating to see the team showing a lack of urgency against Malacca, a side who are one rung off the bottom of the 13-team table with only six points from one win, three draws and 12 defeats.
TMFC won the match with goals by Effendi Malik (17th), Chaswe Nsofwa (48th) and Mohd Fazil Baharuddin (54th).
Malacca replied through Eduardo Escobar (31st) and Patrick Volf (65th).
The win for TMFC moved them two rungs up to eighth place on 22 points from six wins, four draws and six defeats.
