PUTRAJAYA: Local coaches can now breathe a sigh of relief as the Cabinet Committee on Sports Development has approved a RM10.3 million allocation for their allowances and salaries.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who heads the committee also said the disbursement of the allocation through the National Coaching Scheme, which was originally scheduled next year would now be brought forward to next month.
He said the scheme would be divided into three categories, national, state and temporary coaches at school level with their allowance and salaries to be given based on their coaching qualifications.
He said the involvement of teachers as temporary coaches in schools would be further discussed.
The National Coaching Scheme is set up to encourage more local coaches to make coaching their career.
Najib also informed the meeting that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) had given its consent to place the under 20 football team under the National Sports Council. – Bernama
