HANOI: Police in southern Vietnam are investigating the death of a Belgian footballer who was found in his bed with stab wounds in the chest, an official said yesterday.
The 26-year-old Belgian player of Ugandan origin, who had come to try out for the Dong Nai Football Club, was found on Wednesday and died shortly after being taken to a hospital, said Le Van Trieu, the clubs deputy director.
Trieu said the player had complained of being tired during a training session that day and had returned to his room after the teams doctor found nothing unusual with his health.
He was later found by team members who came to check on him.
They removed a towel and found blood covering his chest, Trieu said, adding a knife was found on his bed.
Police are investigating whether the wound was self-inflicted or homicide, the official said. AP
