BERLIN: German footballing great Franz Beckenbauer has been granted a divorce from his wife Sybille and is expected to marry his lover and the mother of his two children, the top-selling Bild newspaper reported yesterday.
Bayern Munich president Beckenbauer, who heads the organising committee for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, has been separated from Sybille, a former secretary for the German Football Federation whom he married in 1990, for two years.
