Hat-trick of titles for Sarawak diver Gracie

SARAWAK continued their domination in the diving competition when Gracie Junita bagged her third gold at the Aquatic Centre in Paroi yesterday. 

The 14-year-old lass from Kuching chalked up a total of 236.77 points in the girls’ individual 1m springboard to beat teammate Elizabeth Jimie to the gold. 

Elizabeth, who had picked up two golds partnering Gracie in the synchronised diving competitions, had a score of 220.77.  

Perak’s Cheong Jun Hoong took bronze with a 175.59 total. 

Gracie, who qualified for the Athens Olympic Games two months ago, will have a chance to add to her gold haul when she competes in the 3m springboard competition tomorrow. 

Nor Aznizal Najib, who dropped out of the national squad last week, retained his title for Perak in the 3m springboard event with a 600.87 total.  

Sabah’s Khairul Safwan took the silver with 564.81 points while Zibeon Uzza won the bronze with a total of 554.37.  

The boys’ 1m springboard and girls’ 10m platform finals will be held today.
