MALAYSIA settled for a bronze from tennis after Si Yew Meng (pic) and Khoo Chin Bee qualified for the semi-finals of the mixed doubles event at the Lan Anh Club in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday.
But they failed to make it into the final when they were beaten 6-1, 2-6, 3-6 by the Indonesian pair of Hendri Susilo Pramono and Maya Rosa.
The Malaysian duo had defeated Chi Huynh Khuong-Phan Nhu Quynh of Vietnam 2-1 in the quarter-finals.
It was definitely not a good day for Malaysia. Yew Meng, who is seeded fourth in the men's singles, was upset by Thailand's second seed Attapol Rithiwatanapong 6-0, 6-7 (5-7), 5-7 in the quarterfinals.
And in the women's singles, third seed Chin Bee, ranked 355th in the International Tennis Federation list, was stunned by Indonesia's Septi Mende, ranked 619th, 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 (4-7) in the quarter-finals after receiving a firt-round bye..
The men's doubles challenge also ended after Mohamed Noor Nordin and Dannio lost 0-2 to Do Minh Quan-Le Quo Khanh of Vietnam in the first round.
