KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian lawn bowlers made history when they emerged as the overall champions of the 10th Asia Pacific Bowls Championship for the first time.
The championship was held in Brisbane, Australia from Nov 26 to Dec 2 with 16 countries taking part.
The Malaysian team collected two gold, two silver and four bronze medals in the tournament.
With this achievement, Malaysia are now the best overall team in Asia and South East Asia, said Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF) President, Tan Sri Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid in a statement.
He said Malaysia emerged as the overall champion by collecting 123 points.
New Zealand were placed second, collecting 120 points after winning three gold and two silver medals.
The Malaysian gold medals were won through the women's pairs (Siti Zalina Ahmad and Nazura Ngahat) and women's triples (Azlina Arshad, Nor Hashimah Ismail and Haslah Hassan).
The silver medals were contributed by the women's fours (Azlina, Nazura, Nor Hashimah and Haslah) and men's pairs Fairul Izwan Abd Muin and Affendy Tan.
The bronzes came from the women's and men's singles, men's triples and men's fours events. Bernama
