Guna stamps his class by winning the Perak Masters


BATU GAJAH: Former national number one golfer P. Gunasegaran continued to stamp his mark on the local golfing arena when he clinched the RM100,000 Orbsea-Perak Masters at the Clearwater Sanctuary Golf Resort here yesterday. 

The overnight leader took the title after carding identical 69s in all three rounds for a three-day score of 207. 

With the victory, Gunasegaran, once the Malaysian Open runner-up, took home RM16,000, while Airil Rizman and Steven Tan finished second jointly with a score of 209. 

Airil, who was placed second yesterday, carded a two-under 70 while Tan managed an impressive four-under 68. 

Both received RM9,500, while former international footballer-turned-golfer Wong Hong Nung was placed fourth with 210, followed by first round leader Danny Chia, who totalled 211. 

In the final round yesterday , Gunasegaran fired a three-under 33 on the first nine with birdies on the fourth, sixth and seventh holes. On the return journey, he dropped a bogey on the 11th before firing a birdie on the 13th hole. 

About 70 golfers from Malaysia, Britain, Australia, Japan, India, Myanmar, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia and Japan took part in the 54-hole tournament. – Bernama
