Sarpong to undergo last-minute fitness test
JOHOR BARU: Sarawak will put tough-tackling Ghanaian defender Emmanuel Sarpong to a test this morning to determine his fitness for the Malaysia Cup Group B match against Perlis in Kuching tonight.
Coach Jalil Ramli said that Sarpong, who is nursing a thigh injury, had resumed training after missing the first two matches against Negri Sembilan and Malacca Telekom but still looked doubtful for tonight's match.
Midfielder Ching Hong Aik, who missed the match against Telekom because of ankle injury, is also a doutbful starter.
“I will not risk fielding them if they are not fully fit,” said Jalil from Kuching yesterday.
In the absence of Sarpong, former President's Cup striker Fadly Kassim had stood in well in a centreback partnership with skipper Bobby Chua.
Sarawak defeated Negri 4-0 at home and chalked up an away draw with Telekom (1-1).
