SEPANG: Formula One fans at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this weekend will be seeing Lewis Hamilton in a different colour than to what they are used to in previous years, but the British driver's love for the track remains the same.
The seven-time world champion, who last raced in Malaysia donning Mercedes colours, will be in the scarlet red Ferrari alongside teammate Charles Leclerc this year for the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.
Hamilton said that while he does not remember much of his past 11 races in Malaysia, the memory of driving into his former team McLaren’s pit lane in 2013 was something he chuckled at when recalling his past experiences.
"I don’t really remember any of the races here to be honest, maybe in 2008 when I first raced here.
"Other than that I remember going into the wrong pits," said Hamilton.
"Otherwise, the memories I have are mostly heading into Kuala Lumpur and working with Petronas, which I really loved.
"I got to visit the Petronas Twin Towers every time I was here and I love that building."
Hamilton has only won once in Malaysia, in 2014.
Meanwhile, he threw his support behind team principal Fred Vasseur, who has been involved in rumours that his position was linked to former Red Bull boss Christian Horner.
"Fred is a great guy and is the one to lead us. He’s doing a fantastic job.
"If you look at the history of how many people have been swapped in that role, I feel it’s in a better place than it’s been before but it’s ultimately not a one-man situation.
"He’s helped us get to second in the constructors championship, and that’s a huge step from last year.
"It’s a lot of people coming together and if you want to point fingers, point it somewhere else," said Hamilton.
