Hafizh continues flawless run to extend lead in Asia Road Racing C’ship

PETALING JAYA: Rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah extended his lead in the Asia Road Racing Championship after taking his sixth straight win at the Mobility Resort Motegi, Japan, yesterday.

Hafizh followed up a blazing pace in Race 1 on Saturday to dominate the competition by crossing the finish line in Race 2 with a time of 27:33.273s.

The 32-year-old Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) Racing Team rider has had a flawless season in the ASB1000 class.

The reigning champion has started on pole, gotten the fastest lap, and won all races.

Hafizh currently has 150 points and leads Keito Abe by 34 points after the Japanese rider came in second back-to-back at his home circuit.

Thailand’s Nakarin Atiratphuvapat came in third.

JDT Racing Team’s Andi Farid Izdihar finished sixth after finishing fifth in Race 1. The Indonesian rider is currently third in the standings with 74 points.

Hafizh will be aiming to keep his perfect run in the Indonesia leg at the Mandalika International Circuit from Aug 8-9.

The championship will be held at the Sepang International Circuit in September before the final round at the Chang International Circuit in December.
