PETALING JAYA: Malaysian racer Putera Adam Halim made history after becoming the first Asian to win the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Championship Pro category title.

The 19-year-old, racing for Vincenzo Sospiri Racing together with teammate Paul Levet of France, rode their way to victory in both races at the final round of the championship at the Misano Circuit in Italy on Friday.

This comes after the duo also clinched a double victory at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya last month, propelling them to finish at the top of the standings.

"Winning my first GT title in my debut season in Europe and to make history being the first Asian to do it still feels like a dream," said Putera.

"To bring home the overall championship is a result of all the hard work and dedication we put into this season."

After the final round, Putera and Levet charged on again at the Misano Circuit for the Lamborghini World Finals, which took place on Saturday and Sunday.

The duo finished a commendable third place in the world after finishing second in Race 1 and 20th in Race 2.

Although they crossed the line first in Race 1, they were demoted to second after a five-second penalty.

Race 2 was unfortunate after the car was tagged by another racer and saw their hopes of the World title win slip away.

"We were right in the mix for the world title in Race 2 until contact from behind took us out of contention," said Putera.

"It hurts knowing we had the pace and potential to be world champions. Sometimes racing can be cruel, and it was one of those days.

"But finishing third in the world is still something to be proud of. We gave everything this weekend and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved together."
