PETALING JAYA: Petronas Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing rider Ahmad Afif Amran clinched his fourth Malaysian Cub Prix Championship title at Dataran Seri Jempol yesterday.
Despite finishing fourth in the race, it was enough to see Afif crowned overall champion at round 8 of the championship, with two rounds to go.
Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin took the race win, followed by Azroy Hakeem Anuar, while Faiz Zekri Sabri rounded off the podium.
Afif started the race in the lead, poised to ride his way to victory and claim the championship, but his luck ran out in the final two laps as he fell, allowing Kasma and Azroy to overtake.
Recovering quickly, he rode aggressively to catch up and stay in fourth place, which was enough to see him secure the championship.
“Even with tough competition from Kasma and other riders, I managed to maintain my momentum and achieve my goal of winning the championship,” said Afif.
“When I fell, my only focus was to quickly continue racing and collect as many points as possible. This week has been very challenging for me, but I adapted to the circumstances. Now I feel calmer heading into the remaining two rounds.”
