PETALING JAYA: Rider Ahmad Afif Amran (pic) of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing snatched a last minute victory in the CP150 race at Round 3 of the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship.
Afif, who was third from the pole, stayed behind the top pack before crossing the line at the last lap to take victory in 18:48.052s at LYL International Karting Circuit in Kajang.
It was Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor who was in fiery form when he recorded the fastest lap at 1:09.717s to secure the pole position.
He was closely followed by Azroy Hakeem Anuar of Honda Estremo Yuzy Racing at 1:09.954s with Afif rounding out the front row with 1:10.252s.
In the race, it was Kasma who had the early lead but everything changed on lap 7 when he was slapped with a ride through penalty for a jump start, dropping him down the order.
Azroy reclaimed the lead but the spotlight shifted in the final lap when Afif, who had remained calm and consistent in the leading pack, saw his opportunity and launched a decisive move to overtake Azroy, who finished second at 18:46.117s.
