Afif is not expecting any more favours from Akid in Cub Prix

PETALING JAYA: Ahmad Afif Amran (pic) from Petronas Sprinta Yamaha CKJ Racing can expect a strong push from his own teammate Mohd Akid Aziz as he bids to keep the winning momentum going in Round 2 of the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Tang­kak this weekend.

Afif won the CP150 category in Round 1 of the championship in Sepang last month, thanks to Akid, who managed to keep the chasing pack at bay in the last few laps during the race.

And that saw Afif bagging the 25 maximum points ahead of Danial Syahmi (20 points) with defending overall champion Akid taking third spot in Sepang (16 points).

Afif knows he cannot be expecting his teammate Akid to hand a similar favour as the season heats up.

“All riders will want to take the win and many of them are highly experienced, especially Akid,” said Afif.

“Akid helped a lot in the season opening race last month as he was keeping off the other riders well.

“I had it easier on the front. But we are going to a different track after this, so the scenario will not be the same.

“I will stay focused and try to set-up my machine well for this week,” added Afif, who added it was still too early to think about fighting for the championship title.

“For now, I don’t want to think too much about the championship title but what’s more important is for me to be in a good position in each race and collect as much points as possible.”
