New Myvi Cup offers racers another avenue to move up

PETALING JAYA: After conquering the roads, the iconic Perodua Myvi is now set to conquer the track in Malaysia.

The Malaysia Speed Festival (MSF) will be introducing a new Myvi Cup category in their MSF Superturismo series beginning from the sixth round at Petronas Sepang International Circuit on Nov 10.

The MSF previously introduced the Saga Cup in 2014 and it has gone on to enjoy immense success to this day as it offers privateers an affordable entry-point to track racing.

MSF principal Adian Yein Khalid said the introduction of the Myvi Cup class will offer racers another avenue to move up.

“The racing philosophy at MSF has always been to make competitions more accessible and affordable to the masses. The Saga Cup has proven to be exponentially successful with more than 75 cars and almost 200 drivers taking part every round.

‘’The Myvi has undoubtedly been Malaysia’s most popular car model for many, many years to the point it has often been referred to as the ‘King of the Road’.

“The introduction of the Myvi Cup is only a natural step towards bringing greater diversity into motor racing.

“It is also a much more modern car compared to the earlier generations of Proton Saga and this again will provide participants with another avenue to move up to,” said Adian.

The Myvi Cup competition will be open to all three generations of the Myvi, which has been sold here in various guises and engine displacements since 2005.

Drivers will be separated into Pro and Casual categories based on their abilities.
